Let’s talk about this super popular novel that the whole franchise has been adapted into film, it is no other than Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling. But in this writing, I will only share my thoughts about the third book of Harry Potter (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban). This book has 464 pages (printed edition) or 439 pages (e-book) that consists of 22 chapters full of suspense and fantasy. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was first released on July 8th, 1999 and was later adapted into film in 2004.

The story starts as Harry Potter lived in his relatives' house, the Dursleys, which located in number four, Privet Drive, Little Whinging. Like the two previous books of Harry Potter, the narrator tells us how inconvenient it was for Harry to live among his only relatives who despised his kind (witches and wizards) so much. The annoyances only seemed to grow by the time the Dursleys brought Aunt Marge to visit them. Some sort of unpleasant incident brought Harry to ran away from home out of anger. He lurked around the city until the knight bus came and fetched him by luck. It turns out that Wizarding World was having some sort of crisis because a notorious wizard prisoner who was known to kill many people, Sirius Black, broke free from wizard prison (Azkaban). Sirius was also known to be follower of the vicious dark wizard who killed Harry's parents. Those events then resulting in Harry's adventure with his best friends (Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger) in Hogwarts (School of Witchcraft and Wizardry) to uncover truth behind the escape of Sirius Black from Azkaban.

“I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.”

As a Potterhead (nickname for Harry Potter's fan), this line holds a very special place in my heart. This line is a spell that capture the readers’ heart very wittily and can be found in many pages of this book as this spell is used to open the Marauder’s Map. The concept of Marauder’s Map itself is one of the eye catching point of this book, which is connected with the main conflict of the story. This book is personally my favourite from the whole series. Both the storyline and the nuances are the best so far. I always love J.K. Rowling's writing style, she likes to describe the whole situation of story in detail, which is needed because this novel's genre is fantasy. For example is like what she did with Marauder’s Map. Thanks to that, I have no trouble imagining the whole magic scene in my head as if I saw it before my eyes.

Another J.K. Rowling’s distinctive character is that she emphasized so much on the characters' thoughts and feelings, especially of our main character, Harry, as this novel use omniscient third POV. This novel is taking us to live as 13 years old Harry Potter who has high curiosity with everything that surrounds him. It also captures the adolescence of Harry perfectly as he was going through puberty and many things change in his life. This book is also very emotive as we are going to see behind one’s action and what change it brought to others.

“We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.”

That quote is from Sirius Black, it enlighten us not to give up because of other judgements about us. This book delivers many wise passages from its character. What I love the most from this book is that this book is relatable in terms of characters’ relationship with each other, along with feelings they deliver. I really adore the friendship Harry has with Ron and Hermione to the point that I want it for myself. Despite many problems that occurs, in the end they were able to solve it and remain best friends. Aside from that, the fact Ron’s family treat Harry like their own family warms my heart. This teach us that brother isn’t just those who share the same blood.

The only drawback of this book is sometimes J.K. Rowling use specific language style written in dialog for some character. This dialog is written with many abbreviation to emphasize its character, like dialog of Stan Shunpike (conductor of Knight Bus) that come across unclear for non-native English speaking reader. Because of those many reasons I state in paragraphs above, in conclusion, this book is really worth to read to satisfy your thirst for fantasy. If I may rate this book, I can give it 4.8/5 stars rating for everything. That’s all from me, thank you for reading this review. Best regards from me.
